Use company information to your advantage

The following sources will help you find your dream company.

COMPANY WEBSITE

A company's website is the first place to go to find out more about potential employers. Good websites not only provide information about the company's products and services. An appealing website provides authentic insights into the company, briefly introduces individual employees or teams or reports on social commitment. In the career section, you will often also find helpful information on the required application documents - especially what the cover letter and CV should contain and whether speculative applications are welcome. A large number of companies are already represented with their own profiles in the social networks and, in addition to professional information, also offer tips on career opportunities or the working atmosphere and communication of values.

(ONLINE) PRESS

Anyone interested in a job should follow world events as well as the local news near the company's headquarters. How is the industry doing? How are the markets developing? Are there enough jobs in a certain field right now?
In addition to press releases, you can often find useful information in corporate blogs - if employers offer them - or on opinion platforms. Especially in the weeks before and during your application phase, set up a free news agent; work with Google Alerts, for example, to always be up to date on your desired company and to gather more information for a possible interview. A LinkedIn subscription to the company page is also useful, as is a simple online search.

EMPLOYER RATING PORTALS

Employer rating portals such as kununu, Jobvoting or meinChef.de offer former or current employees the opportunity to rate employers based on predefined criteria. You can give grades and write your own experience reports on a wide range of topics related to employers and the employment relationship (managers, workplace, job, salary, etc.).

However, you should not overrate the individual contributions. They can give you hints about what employers expect, what questions you should ask in the interview or clarify in advance. However, they cannot relieve you of the need to do your own thorough research.
