What does a quality manager do?

Flexibility is required in QM: controlling and optimising quality processes in companies, ensuring compliance with standards and identifying problem areas are roughly outlined as the tasks of quality managers. Implementation is carried out using various quality management methods and close cooperation with the corresponding departments and employees in the company.

The tasks of quality managers include:

  • Checking technical products for quality and practicality
  • Implementing and executing quality assurance measures
  • Monitoring and improving processes
  • Being responsible for quality promotion and quality controlling
  • Supporting the purchasing department in supplier development

 

  • Support and accompany change management

The education of quality managers

As a rule, in Austria education to become a quality manager takes place via a technical or economic degree and additional qualifications in the field of quality management. A part-time QM further training for employees with sufficient professional experience, e.g. for master craftsmen or journeymen, is also possible.

For the four-semester university course in quality management (MSc), for example, the following requirements apply:

  • Completed Austrian university studies
  • Alternatively, an equivalent university or university of applied sciences degree completed according to foreign study regulations
  • Alternatively, general university entrance qualification and at least four years of relevant professional experience in a relevant position

WHAT OPPORTUNITIES DO QUALITY MANAGERS
HAVE ON THE LABOUR MARKET?

The optimisation of products and processes is becoming increasingly important in companies, and with it the demand for quality managers. The career prospects are therefore excellent. This is especially true for quality managers with know-how in project management, mechanical engineering, engineering sciences, IT or the health sector. Beginners with a corresponding degree have good chances of entry, but a lateral entry via the necessary QM further qualifications is also possible. Ask us about your options in the various fields.

 WHAT IS THE SALARY OF A QUALITY MANAGER?


As in many other professions, the salary of quality managers depends on the industry, the region and the size of the company. Currently, the average annual salary of a quality manager is about 45,000 euros gross and can increase by up to 30 percent with further QM qualifications and increasing professional experience.
